There are many trails, many of them old trade or pilgrimage routes, leading through terraced hillsides, forested ridges, river banks, paddy fields, forest covers, and connecting picturesque hamlets and mountain villages. Due to the difficult topography of the land, access by vehicle is very limited. The best way to see Nepal and connect with her land and people is by walking on foot, depending on the area you wish to trek in and the degrees of difficulty you are willing to face. The trails are well maintained, and many trails up steep slopes are often paved with stones. Trekking in Nepal entails walking up and down countless times.
